Casting Fire Upon the Earth: The Radicality of the Gospel and the Mission of the Laity

What does it mean to be a lay person in the Church? Are the laity simply 'generic' Christians who have not been called to a specific mission within the Church? This talk will explore the Church as the People of God, called to set the world on fire with the divine love gifted by the Holy Spirit. Lay men and women have an essential, irreplaceable role to play within this mission of the Church, and they are never generic: each and every Christian has a unique mission within the Body of Christ, and serves as an essential stone building up the Temple of God. This talk will also consider the relationship between the laity, ministerial priests, and consecrated religious, within the one Church of God.
