Most Reverend Salvatore R. Matano: Ex. Officio, Chancellor, Executive Committee
The Most Reverend Salvatore R. Matano was ordained to the priesthood on December 17, 1971. He attended the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he was awarded a Licentiate Degree in Sacred Theology in 1972, and later received a Doctorate in Canon Law in 1983 from that same university. On April 19, 2005, Bishop Matano was ordained to the Episcopacy for the Diocese of Burlington, Vermont. Since January 3, 2014, Bishop Matano has been the Bishop of Rochester and the Chancellor of Saint Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry. -
Mr. Edward W. Kay, Jr.: Chair, Executive Committee, Business & Finance Committee, Co-Chair, Strategic Planning Committee
Edward W. Kay, Jr. has been the Chair of the St. Bernard's Board of Trustees since 2015, having served as the St. Bernard's Treasurer prior thereto. Mr. Kay is a Certified Public Accountant who spent his 33-year career with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), serving in 5 different offices prior to moving to Rochester NY in 1999. Mr. Kay served as PwC’s Rochester, NY Office Managing Partner for 13 years from 1999 to 2012 and, for a time, Managing Partner of the firm’s Upstate NY practice and had been the Leader of PwC’s high technology practice in Dallas, TX from 1993 to 1999. Mr. Kay also chairs the Audit Committee for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester and serves on the Stewardship Council for the Diocese, as well as other local charities and two corporate boards. -
Reverend Daniel J. Condon: Ex Officio
Fr. Daniel Condon serves as the Chancellor of the Diocese of Rochester. He has been a priest for 40 years serving in parishes for 20 years and diocesan administration for 20 years. He received his BA in Philosophy from St. John Fisher College, a M.Div from St. Bernard’s Seminary, and a J.C.L. from The Catholic University of America. In addition to the Board of St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry, he also serves on the Board of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rochester, the Rochester Catholic Press Association, the Diocesan College of Consultors, the Diocesan Presbyteral Council, and the Communis Fund. -
Very Reverend Paul J. Tomasso: Ex Officio
Very Reverend Paul J. Tomasso is currently the Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester and the Director of Priests’ Personnel and Seminarians. Ordained in 1981, he completed his Master of Divinity degree at St. Bernard’s Seminary and his undergraduate degree at Saint Columban’s College and Seminary. He has been an Ex Officio member of St. Bernard’s Board of Trustees since 2015. -
Sister Laura Bufano, CSJ: Secretary, Executive Committee, Strategic Planning Committee
Sister Laura Bufano, CSJ is a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet. She currently serves in the Diocese of Syracuse as Director of Pastoral Leadership and Associate Director for Pastoral Planning. Her ministry experience in the Syracuse diocese includes: co-director for Church Vocations; Director, Office of Liturgy; pastoral associate; coordinator of liturgical ministries; liturgical ministry specialist (PCA); music educator (Syracuse and Albany Dioceses); Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet: Albany Province Leadership Team; Congregational Director/Congregational Leadership Team. She has been serving on St. Bernard's Board of Trustees since 2015. -
Dr. Thomas Carroll, II: Academic and Student Affairs Committee
Dr. Thomas Carroll is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester, husband, and father of four. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut and then completed his internal medicine training at the University of Rochester where he subsequently served as Chief Resident and completed the fellowship program in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Carroll practices both general internal medicine and palliative care in the office and hospital settings. He also directs the Advanced Communication Training (ACT) Program, which seeks to improve patient care by supporting communication excellence among individual clinicians and clinical teams. -
Dr. Richard DeMartino: Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee
Richard DeMartino holds the Albert J. Simone Endowed Chair for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and serves as the director the Simone Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which promotes innovation and entrepreneurship education and activity throughout the RIT community. Dr. DeMartino's research and teaching interests include Entrepreneurial Startup Processes & Motivations, Technology Commercialization, and New Emerging Models of Higher Education. -
Dr. Rajiv Devan: Chair of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee, Strategic Planning Committee
Dr. Rajiv Dewan is the Dean of the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University. Prior to joining Syracuse University, he was the Xerox Professor of Business at the Simon School of the University of Rochester. He obtained his PhD in Business from the University of Rochester. He is a member of the Holy Cross parish in DeWitt, NY. -
Mrs. Elizabeth Gilges: Chair of the Development and Public Relations Committee
Liz Gilges has been an active parishioner of St Benedict’s parish in Canandaigua for 23 years. She has taught Pre Cana with her husband for many years and presently is involved with Baptismal preparation. She is a lector at Mass and a daily communicant. She is the mother of six children who have all attended Catholic elementary and high school. She volunteers in hospice, The Women’s Care Center and Care Net Pregnancy Center. She has served on the Diocese of Rochester school board for the past six years. She enjoys taking classes at St Bernard's to increase her ongoing formation in the faith. She was nominated for the Athena award in 2019 and received the Vita award from Catholic Charities in 2016. -
Reverend Msgr. James P. Lang: Strategic Planning Committee
Rev. Msgr. James P. Lang is a priest of the Diocese of Syracuse. Ordained a priest in 1974, he currently serves as the Episcopal Vicar for Parishes, Director of Pastoral Planning, Diocesan Director of Campus Ministry, and Chaplain for Scouting. A 1971 graduate of Wadhams Hall Seminary College, Ogdensburg, and a 1975 M.Div. of St. Mary’s Seminary and University, Baltimore, he has served as Catholic Chaplain for SUNY College in Oswego and the Senior Catholic Chaplain to Syracuse University and SUNY ESF. Currently he is also the assisting priest for O’Heron Newman Hall at SUNY Cortland. He was elected to the Board of Trustees of St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry in May 2012. -
Mrs. Carmen Ana Klosterman: Strategic Planning Committee
CarmenAna is a mother of 7 children, whom she home-schooled. She has taught CCD, translated over 15 books of the Faith, presented at Cursillo, Marriage Encounter, and Pre-Cana. She is the co-founder of ARCH and St. Peter the Rock Tutoring School. In Rochester, she opened a chapter of Challenge and started Pure Fashion. She worked with St. John Bosco School and served on the executive committee for the Rochester Catholic Women’s Conference. -
Father Daniel White: Strategic Planning Committee
Father Daniel E. White was ordained a Priest on June 5, 2004. As a priest, Father White has served in parish ministry, campus ministry, priestly vocations ministry and he currently serves as priest secretary to Bishop Matano. -
Mrs. Teanna Tomko: Strategic Planning Committee
Teanna Tomko is a full-time mom and part-time commercial real estate lawyer originally from just outside of Toronto, Canada. She moved to the Rochester area in 2017 and she and her husband Ryan have two young boys, Theodore and Damien. Teanna and her family live in Walworth, NY and attend both St Jerome’s in East Rochester and St. Dominic’s in Shortsville.
