Join Joseph Schoene for a presentation on his experiences traveling to Ghana through the National Youth Advisory Council for NFCYM and Catholic Relief Services, and how those encounters led to the founding of "The Good Samaritan Organization," a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Through stories, photos, and reflection, Joseph will share what he witnessed while visiting a refugee community in Ghana, the lessons he learned through faith, and how those experiences inspired him to take action back home. The presentation will explore the connection between Catholic social teaching, human dignity, and service, while highlighting ongoing humanitarian efforts supporting families and communities in Ghana.
The Good Samaritan Organization was founded by Joseph Schoene after participating in a synodal delegation to Ghana, where he represented New York State alongside Catholic Relief Services and other young leaders serving on a youth council. During the trip, Joseph visited refugee communities in northern Ghana and witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by displaced families living with limited access to shelter, food, and other basic necessities.
Seeing both the hardships these families endured and the resilience of the people he met deeply impacted him. The experience inspired him to take action long after the delegation had ended, with a desire to provide meaningful and lasting support to those in need.
After returning home, Joseph established "The Good Samaritan Organization" to transform that experience into lasting impact. By partnering with trusted local organizations in Ghana, including the Ghana Refugee Board and NABOCADO, the organization provides humanitarian aid while restoring dignity and hope to refugees and other vulnerable communities.
